World AIDS Day

Introduction of World AIDS Day 2010

The principle of gender equality is enshrined in the Indian Constitution in its Preamble, Fundamental Rights, Fundamental Duties and Directive Principles. The Constitution not only grants equality to women, but also empowers the State to adopt measures of positive discrimination in favour of women.

The 1990's have seen increasing recognition of the centrality of women's empowerment to the success of development programmes.

WAD10Women's empowerment is the major points of discussion was the need to break the “Glass ceiling” which is accepted by all but still needs a comprehensive efforts from the grass root level.

National AIDS Control Organization, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare Govt. of India & West Bengal State AIDS Prevention & Control Society, Govt. of West Bengal has too taken active initiatives regarding this issue and successfully continuing Targeted Intervention programme among the High Risk Group (HRG) in the Nation through various civil society organizations.

Apart from this as a part of the HIV/ AIDS issue every year WBSAP& CS organize “Observation of World AIDS Day Programme” for mass awareness campaign and like previous years this year World AIDS Day was too observed in the state. Many civil society organizations who are working with the financial support of WBSAP& CS were also organized several AIDS awareness programmes with the SACS supported fund and Jalpaiguri HRIDAY is one of them.

Jalpaiguri HRIDAY is a CBO and working among the Female Commercial Sex Workers (FCSWs) in Jalpaiguri District regarding HIV/ AIDS issue and like previous year this year HRIDAY was too observed the World AIDS Day – 2010 programme through various awareness related activities. Govt. officials from different levels, many Non Govt. agencies’ representatives, several Youth Club members, and the Target Group of HRIDAY were participated in this mass campaign programme.
